Sequins (and champagne) are obligatory on December 31st, so it was no surprise when a reader, Amanda, emailed me about putting together a New Year’s Eve outfit based around a blazer with embellished lapels. (Now I’m currently wanting her gold + black jacket.)
Believe it or not, a detailed blazer is actually a versatile item–if paired correctly, it can easily transition from look to look. I prefer a chic piece over a I-just-pulled-this-sequined-and-feathered-number-out-of-my-box-of-old-dance-recital-dresses. Rather than a tight bandage dress, opt for a slouchy, unstructured dress with ankle booties. A long statement necklace will create length without seeming bulky.

While head-to-toe sequins are appropriate for ringing in the new year, the other 364 days don’t need as much shine. For a daytime look, put on your favorite pair of cuffed jeans, a sheer blouse, and simple pumps. Add a coat of bright polish to your nails for a pop of color. Need a fast date night outfit? Trade nude heels for a sexy pair of platforms.

My plans for the evening include a bottle of Moët and a good read–no midnight kisses in Times Square this year.
New Year’s Eve plans?
What are you wearing this year?

Love the different ways to pair that embellished blazer! I never know what to do with sequins.
Thanks, Liv! Sequins can be a bit tricky and can easily end up looking tacky. I think less is more when it comes to sequins.
Love, love, love it! Thank you so much for this post! Your suggestions, as always, have been very helpful! Happy New Year to you!
You’re welcome, Amanda! Glad my suggestions helped! Happy New Year! :)

Thanks, Liz! I sometimes think that a low-key night is the best way to go!
